On a Gray Foggy Day

Yes! The best time to shoot! Really! No kidding! lol

I’m a big fan of bright, overcast days–especially for people photography. No high-noon dark eye sockets. Just set the color temperature and go. Photogenic and willing friends make great subjects, as you can see in this family gallery and the pic below.

Five family members pose on a beach, their boat in the background on a overcast, humid day.
Even Light on a Gray Foggy Day

If the web were a place where bandwidth was freely unlimited, I’d put up very large picture files for you to view on a desktop photo editor that shows beautiful, well lit eyes! This is especially important in close-ups of the face. But as is you can see the even the light (click to view a larger image or view the full gallery). Bright, scattered light does a really neat trick with photographic subjects: it’s called even-illumination, eyes and all 🙂

The next time you look outside and it’s a decent overcast day, get out and make some great pictures – you’re going to love the results 😀

Autumn Backlight and HDR Photomerge
